In short you have a few options - all involve soft modding to a certain degree if you wish to keep out of region gaming. Nintendo blocked out of region gaming ion the 4.2 update and nothing can be done to get round this except a small amount of soft modding... Meaning the HBC
1. Install the HBC and find out what IOS files are needed for your specific games and install the relevant IOS files:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3199 (This link explains how to install IOS's and Channels)
- This allows allows you to stay on 4.0
- Downside, YOU need to find the IOS files required to be installed for your games to work
- Not all out of region games work directly from the disc channel anyway
2. Install the HBC and use WodeFlow AND upgrade to 4.3
- Get a nice user interface
- Gives out of region game support even on 4.2 and above (from within WodeFlow not the Disc Channel)
- Allows you to select any Wii game, no matter region, and start it from within WodeFlow
- Can use Cheats if you wish
- There are some issues start some GC games so start them via LCD or the CFG Menu or the old Wode Menu App
- How to install the HBC:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1992 (for 4.1 and 4.1 and below. Also has a link to 4.3 - disregard the DvDx section)
- Better guide for HBC install on 4.3:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4701- More info on WodeFlow:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3049&p=28128#p28128- If you have HBC already installed but below 1.0.7 simply download the HackMii files as per above, place them in the sd:\apps\hackMii folder and start from within the HBC to upgrade - OR turn on wireless internet access on your Wii and let it upgrade by sitting at the HBC screen for about 10secs
3. Update to 4.3 and this will fix error 002 BUT you will lose Out of Region Gaming
If you go option 2 ENSURE that you install the HBC 1.0.7 or above BEFORE you update to 4.3. Also, a special note: HBC 1.0.8 has a bug where if you do not have wifi on the Wii some apps crash out - like WodeFlow:
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2875I would recommend (if you decide option 2) - whether you have wifi or not - to first install HBC 1.0.7. Then upgrade to 4.3 and then if you do have wifi on your Wii start the HBC and when prompted to update it accept and update.
Me personally - I would go with option 2 for the ease of use.
1. Install, via BannerBomb 4.1 and below, HBC 1.0.7
- BannerBomb 4.1 is in teh guide I linked above
- Google for HackMii 0.7b as the links on this site link to HackMii 0.8
2. Once the HBC 1.0.7 is installed update to System Menu 4.3
- This can be done via Wii System Update
- An in region game that has the 4.3 update on it like Metroid/Donkey Kong Country Returns etc
- To install an update via a disc / iso file you must change some WODE settings. Settings - WODE Settings - Game Patching - Region Patch: OFF, Updates: YES and then SAVE. Now select your game and install the update. You may have to run the update twice as it is a two part update (well it was for me when I did it the other day from 3.4). Change WODE Settings back to Updates: OFF and Region Patch: YES
3. Start the HBC and if I have Wifi wait for an update prompt to appear and update the HBC
- If no Wifi then do not bother waiting - just use WodeFlow
Each to their own but to keep it simple this is what I would do and what I actually did on both my Wii's
Once that is completed you can then make it even easier for a child by installing the WodeFlow Channel. This means you do not have to always go via the HBC. This is what I did for my 7yr old. Though she could do it via the HBC via its own channel is nice.

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2808 - Install WodeFlow as a Channel
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3179&start=0 - The actual Channels. WodeFlow - WOTS.wad is what I used. It is a Toy Story Theme
There is always a risk but these WADS have been tried and tested. Your choice how you proceed
