Homebrew is free while modchips are business and past experience shows homebrew community doesn't accept modchips relying on their hacks.
The only way I see is homebrew community itself has to develop the wode channel and I hope Wode team will reveal the specs to make it easier.
Anyway...

Requires a USB hub if you also want to connect a harddrive to the WODE. Otherwise requires a PC/NAS for streaming.
Everything has some pre-requirement.
For GC GUI it's a GC controller, for Wode display it's you have to stand up from the sofa, for (future) Wode Channel it's trucha bug and so on.
Just choose what fits your needs.
Also Wode team announced they are going to make a new wode base with built-in usb hub.

Requires a wireless network (or wired) to be available where your Wii is. This is OK for me at home but makes taking my Wii anywhere else complicated.
Just use one of the other options when you're not at home.

From the system menu it's a lot slower to open Opera and load the WODE control webpage than to load a wii homebrew application from a forwarder channel.
Naaa just launch Opera an go to the favorites. A few seconds and you're ready.
