The first feature i need in my wode is to manage all the iso images in the hd as simply as possible for my doughter. so gc mode is not particulary usefull if i have to use an additional controller only for navigate the menu.
Why not a Native wii application saved as a normal game .iso's to lauch at first to manage the other game images???
in this case we could use the wii remote as well
It' s impossible to code???

Yes it's possible but you'd need trucha bug enabled in your system meaning it would work only for wii firmwares equal/lower than 3.2 and higher hacked ones.

Although wi-fi dongle will be required, the upcoming web interface through opera browser is a cleaner and more general purpose solution.

a wiimote controlled menu is something we'd all like ....

As explained it's not as simple as that ....

unsure about the other comment also ....
In order to use a wifi dongle and opera would the wode not need to be running some sort of web server ?

can someone explain ...??

EDIT: Is the web interface referring to the wifi connection to your pc where the games would be stored ..? if so, i understand

The team didn't reveal any technical detail yet, but since Wode runs Linux they reasonably are going to implement a flash application to browse the games found on the connected devices (included NAS through Samba client). 8-)

Edit:
No PC required. Just Wii, Wode, wi-fi dongle and wireless router of course.
Wode Team, can you confirm that?

Opera/Flash on the Wii is sandboxed and as far as I know has no way to communicate with the drive interface. It is my understanding that it would work by having a separate wifi/lan adaptor connected to the WODE. To me this is not a "clean" solution for a number of reasons:
  • Requires a USB hub if you also want to connect a harddrive to the WODE. Otherwise requires a PC/NAS for streaming.
  • Requires a wireless network (or wired) to be available where your Wii is. This is OK for me at home but makes taking my Wii anywhere else complicated.
  • From the system menu it's a lot slower to open Opera and load the WODE control webpage than to load a wii homebrew application from a forwarder channel.
It's a cool idea but it's less than ideal for many people.

An official WODE channel will likely never be seen due to the "no wii homebrew" stance of the WODE team. However it will be simple for a third party to implement a channel/homebrew application to control the WODE once details on how to communicate with the WODE over the drive interface have been released.

Slightly Off-Topic: I understand the WODE team wants to have a product that doesn't rely on homebrew due to their "always accept firmware upgrades" way of thinking. However I don't see the problem in simply informing the user that a WODE wii homebrew application may not work on future firmware versions. To me this is no different than having to tell people that upgrading to 4.2 will stop imports from working with Flat WODE.

Homebrew is free while modchips are business and past experience shows homebrew community doesn't accept modchips relying on their hacks.
The only way I see is homebrew community itself has to develop the wode channel and I hope Wode team will reveal the specs to make it easier.

Anyway...

Everything has some pre-requirement.
For GC GUI it's a GC controller, for Wode display it's you have to stand up from the sofa, for (future) Wode Channel it's trucha bug and so on.
Just choose what fits your needs.
Also Wode team announced they are going to make a new wode base with built-in usb hub.

Just use one of the other options when you're not at home.

Naaa just launch Opera an go to the favorites. A few seconds and you're ready.

I really don't understand.
i don't mean a wode channel to install in wii dashboard.
I mean a "game" like the other in the hd to run first only to manage the other games images.
what it will be the difference with normal game???

Wii iso's are encrypted and nobody knows the encryption algorithm.
As I said before the trucha bug (fake signature) is the only way to go.

bootOpera will boot direct to the page http://wiibrew.org/wiki/BootOpera
No idea if it launches from bannerbomb for the non brewers but the rest of us could pack it in a wad.

no slower than launching existing menu from disc channel.
