About loading wodemenu through the Homebrew Channel
by The Mods

For the wodemenu to load up properly, it needs to communicate with the WODE. To communicate with the WODE, an .iso needs to be loaded via the WODE. It doesn't matter what .iso, any .iso will do. In the past, Gamecube .iso's would not work, it would return a region mismatch error. Hence, a "Wii Channel" option was created on the WODE. This was to provide communications between the WODE and wodemenu in lieu of mounting an .iso. With WODE firmware 2.0, the Gamecube issue has been fixed and the "Wii Channel" has broken for some people.

Hence, to load your wodemenu now, load any .iso in your WODE, then start wodemenu. This includes the built-in Gamecube CFG iso.

Therefore, to do all of this while sitting on the couch, you can set your WODE Autoboot setting to Autoboot : CFG. When the Wii starts, don't run the Gamecube menu in the Disk Channel, but rather run the wodemenu from the Homebrew Channel.

In theory, since any running .iso will provide proper communication between the WODE and wodemenu, you should be able to get away with Autoboot : LAST.

Once the wodemenu is running, you will be able to pick any .iso, click Start, and the .iso that was mounted will be ejected, and the selected .iso will be mounted. The Wii will reboot and you will be able to play the mounted .iso.

Tip for Upgrading to 2.00 by Zephyr

This is similar to the above but not only for WODE Menu App. Some have had issues with the GC menu if the GC Menu was left as AutoLoad: CFG when they upgraded

Upgrading from Current Version to 2.00

1. Turn AutoLoad: OFF and save
2. Upgrade from current version to 2.00
3. Change AutoLoad: CFG - Save
4. Restart the Wii
5. Use the WODE Menu App via the HBC and you should be fine
Also seems to fix game loading issues from GC Menu for some people

If already on 2.00 then:

1. Change AutoLoad: CFG and Save
2. Restart the Wii
3. Use the WODE Menu App via the HBC and you should be fine

If already on 2.00 and the above tip fails:

1. Set AutoLoad: OFF and Save
2. Downgrade to 1.28 using the 1.28 Downgrade Package
3. Check AutoLoad: OFF
4. Upgrade to 2.00
5. Use the WODE Menu App via the HBC and you should be fine
Also seems to fix game loading issues from GC Menu for some people

TIP FOR ADDING UNDOWNLOADABLE COVERS TO WODE MENU

Thought i might share how to add undownloadabe covers to the WODE CHANNEL/MENU as all my covers DL'd ok except for 'pirates-hunt for blackbeards booty' which just comes up blank. Not sure how many others there is that this happens too aswell!!

So this is what i did to manually add it to the list, Pretty simple....

- Find the required cover somewhere on the net (google is ur friend) and save picture to desktop.

- Open Picture with Photoshop or something similar, and resize to 176 X 248 pixels

- Then save as a PNG file.

- Open up WODEMENU/COVERS/WII/COVER3D on SD card and add file there.

- Then rename it to whatever the game shows up as in your Wode Channel/Menu, For me this game showed up as 'RP7U52-Pirates-hunt for blackbeard's booty'

- So i changed the pirates cover file name in WODE/COVERS/WII/COVER3D to... RP7U52.png

- Now your cover should show up under that game in wode menu! ENJOY!!

NTSC games that don't like PAL Wii's
by Zephyr

There are several NTSC games out there that will not run on PAL Wii version without a softmod of some kind. 3 of these games games are:

Mario Super Sluggers
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a New World
No More Heroes 2

modchips do not offer 100% compatibility with out of region games. The 3 games mentioned above do not work with WODE or a Wii Key v2 without at least HBC and Gecko

TA MIGHT be able to fix this for WODE in the future (with an alternative patch method for such games). There are games that require different patching methods and some have other issues

Gecko works as it has access to the Wii internals (memory / Nand) before/after a game loads that modchips / WODE do not. So being on 4.1 or below makes no difference to the game loading it merely means the game can be seen in the disc channel but not start

we all know IOS files can be an issue if you are on and older Wii menu version but Gecko will tell you if an IOS needs to be installed and is available to be installed. However, if it is an IOS issue then WODE (just like Wii Key) blocks Gecko from being able to see the update partition - aids against brick protection

Gecko will only ever install an IOS file needed to play a game and does not install system menu files. Game IOS files are region free. Should a situation arise for an out of region gme need an IOS installed to worked (as per gecko telling you) there is a way to get this IOS installed

I hope that helps explain things even a little and to further point out that there are just some out of region games that will not work on a non in region Wii

Maybe the Naruto games can be added to this list... I am not sure as I am unable to test in the same manner as I did the 3 above. However, I believe that those games would work via the HBC and Gecko - but again, I have not tested this either. If someone could test via HBC and Gecko that would be appreciated. If someone already has I aplogise for mssng the post.

Using EXT3 with Mac's
by cerebr_al

Are you a Mac user and want to use EXT3 with the WODE? Then read on...

I have recently used Paragon Extfs for Mac. It not only allows you to see and seamlessly read and write to an Ext3 formatted ext hdd, it also enables your Mac to format to Ext3! (Adds Ext3 formatting to Disk Utility) :)

Plus installation is as easy as reading the back of a *cereal box* ;)

I now have no need to work with NTFS (seeing HFS+ has not been supported in the ripping update)

Using hjsplit with the WODE, FAT32, and .iso files
by The Mods

Join

If you rip a DVD5 Wii game to a FAT32 partition, you will wind up with 2 parts, since FAT32 supports filesizes of "4GB-1byte" and the full Wii DVD5 iso size is 4,589,824kb.

The WODE will create:

Code:
game.iso
game.is1

To join the files with hjsplit (to make one .iso file out of them) you need to rename the files before using the hjsplit to:

Code:
game.iso.001
game.iso.002

Then open hjsplit, click join, select the nsmb.iso.001 and it will join your file and the result will be nsmb.iso (make sure your destination partition is not FAT32 - for obvious reasons, it won't work)

You can also use a command line to join the split files:
Code:
copy /b game.iso+game.is1+game.is2 GameNew.iso

Split

Also, you can use hjsplit to take your whole iso and split it into a couple parts if you want to put it on a FAT32 partition (such as an 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB FAT32 formatted SD Card). Just pick the iso and pick a 'split' filesize (something less than "4GB-1byte"). hjsplit will create:

Code:
game.iso.001
game.iso.002

You will have to rename them to:

Code:
game.iso
game.is1

for them to be recognized and mount with the WODE.

Troubleshooting installation problems
by R_N_B

Having troubles with a troublesome WODE installation? It just won't work right? Here is a step by step troubleshooting guide from R_N_B.
Note: This was written with the assumption that you will be testing the Wii/WODE combo while you have the case open.

Here is what I would like you to do.
Remove everything.
That includes removing the flat cable from the base section of the WODE.
So I am asking you to open the base of the WODE up and (use the install manual) take the cable out of the clip. It is not the same kind of clip as on the PCB that goes into the Wii. It does not open in the same way. The information is in the install guide how to remove the flat cable.

Once all is removed. Take each flat cable and make sure the ends do not have any dirt or scratches on them. Some times there are tiny nicks or cuts on the cables. Use a magnified glass to make sure. Next look closely at the power cables and the power connectors. The pins are easily bent. You have to take your time because they are small and tiny so often your eyes fill in the gaps. You have to look carefully. Some of the pins might be bent.

Then back to the PCB that is inside the Wii. Was the whole PCB covered by the protective sheet that came with the WODE? That is important.

Now all has been checked and no faults have been found. Let us move on.

Now use the manual and start the install.

Since everything is in pieces it is easy to do. But this time we will do a few things differently. Once you have the bits together for the Wii do not close the Wii case up. A test needs to be done before then. For now what we are going to do is double and triple check that the flat cables are all perfect. That means the cables have to be all the way in to the connector. The flat cables need to be square on to the ends of the connector. You can check this by looking at the blue ends. They need to be parallel to the connector. The connectors must be secure - in other words there must be no play in the flat cable.

Right moving on. It is the turn of the power cables to be checked. All must be secure against the connectors. The right way round of course. (Yes it has happened in the past).

WODE base is the next port of call. Because the WODE is in pieces for now we will not worry about putting a bit of Duct tape on the flat cable and the WODE base - but do so before you put the WODE back together. Moving on. Thread the flat cable into the slot on the WODE base. Now slide the clip on the LCD panel forward to allow the flat cable to be seated. Once done check again and then once more to make sure.

At this point the WODE is as close to fully working as we need.

Connect all the Wii cables and stuff and do not forget to put the WODE USB connector into the back of the Wii.

Put your SD card with the downgrade file you have selected 1.28 I understand from the text above. That downgrade bin file needs to be in the root of the SD card.

But Wait there is More.

I would like you to please use the Panasonic SD format tool to do a format of the card.

http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/index.html

Then paste the bin file onto the virgin SD card. It should be the only thing on the card.

K:\ update.bin

Now put the SD card in your WODE and power up the Wii.

Your WODE should now update.

I will stop here as this is the point critique as they say.

Please post how it goes to this point.

Cancel Ripping Tip
by Zephyr

If by accident you start a rip and want to cancel press the "eject" button on the Wii. This should eject the disc and show "rip failed" on the LCD.

You can rip again straight over the failed rip. For Example:

1. You were doing a rip to ISO
2. You selected "game only" instead of "rip all"
3. Press Eject to cancel the RIP
4. When you start again and select "rip all" it will rip over the top of the previous failed rip

Should you have chosen ISO instead of WBFS and you cancel the rip you need to remember to remove the failed ISO rip from your HDD

Pressing eject to cancel is particularly good if you accidentally start a rip to an NTFS partition instead of FAT32 or EXT3 due to the time it takes to rip to an NTFS partition.

My Netflix is not working. I get some stupid error code.

icecoolwrx has found out how to fix this problem. Thanks mate.

Disable the WODE auto-boot of the disc and Netflix works fine every-time!

Wodeflow Covers Installation for Offline-Wii
by sum1

Question:
My Wii is not hooked up to the Internet. How do I get titles and covers and where do I put them?

Answer:
1. install wodeflow like in the installation guide (viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1992)
2. run it once once via hbc - it will add an SD:/wodeflow directory with several cover directories to the root of your SD card.
3. turn off wii, take out the SD card und put it in your pc
4. download covers at wiitdb.com (http://wiitdb.com/Game/Search) or with the pc-programm "WiiDB" (which has to be installed first, of course)

WiiDB Links:
http://translate.google.lu/translate?u= ... =&ie=UTF-8
(take v0.8.8.rar - 0.8.9 are it language files only)

what the programm is capable off:
http://translate.google.lu/translate?u= ... =&ie=UTF-8

If your Wodeflow menu shows the boxes in 3d (which it does by default) get the "hq" covers at wiitdb.com or download the "full covers" in the Programm WiiDB (change settings to download the covers in *.png format). For normal covers (2D in your Wodeflow menu activated) choose the front covers ones. Usually the covers are called ID.png (e.g. RMCE01.png).

5. put the downloaded covers onto your SD:/wodeflow into the following directories:

SD:/wodeflow/boxcovers/ - for full covers (default design in Wodeflow - and most commonly used, since they can be flipped over)
SD:/wodeflow/covers/ - for normal Covers (when 3D is set off in the wodeflow options)

6. put the SD card back into your wii
7. finished

PS:
For normal 2d Covers you can download a package at http://wiitdb.com/Main/Downloads - there is no "full hq covers package", since it's too large, i guess.

PPS: you can edit the cover directory-names in SD:/wodeflow/wodeflow.ini - but i don't see the point in that. it's all ok, how it is by default.
