Hi,

sorry if already asked and answered, but I couldn't find anything which solves my problem with Donkey Kong Country Returns & cheats.

So, here is my question:
Has anybody success in applying cheats to Donkey Kong Country Returns?
I tested both the NTSC and PAL version of the game. They run both fine, but as if no cheat is applied.

Worth mentioning is, that I've already successfully used cheats with other games, e.g. Metroid Prime Trilogy, Metroid Other M etc. Normally I use WodeFlow to start games, but to test Donkey Kong Country Returns I also tried Gecko and WodeLoader. Unfortunately with no success.

My setup is as following:

Wii 4.2E
Wode with fimware 2.8A
Wodeflow R9 and R12
GECKO 1.9.3.1
HBC 1.0.8
WodeLoader GX

I have only tested teh B to pound and DOwn+B to blow. I hate having to shake the remote for those functions. They both work flawlessly for player 1 and player 2.

Hi Zephyr,

your cheat file works great both with Gecko and WodeFlow. Funny thing is everything I tried to create a .gct-file by myself failed. May I ask you for a favour?

Could you please generate a .gct-file for me with the following cheats enabled?
- B to pound and DOWN+B to blow
- Infinite health
- Diddy Kong infinite health

How do you create a -gct-file? Normally I use WodeFlow, but I also tried Cheat Manager 0.3 and wiicm 1.1, but nothing works.

And last but least: Could you, please, also upload the SF8E01.txt-file you're using? Maybe are the files I have downloaded from Geckocodes damaged. Is there another reliable source in the internet where I can download cheat codes?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I have attached a zip file with both files requested (cheat file has the 4 cheats you wanted activated - tested and working fine)

I use Cheat Manager v3. It checks SD:\txtcodes for the text files and outputs them to SD:\codes. I then modified the wodeflow.ini file to look for cheats in SD:\codes. This way I select and create the cheats in Cheater Manager and WodeFlow can auto see them hassle free of having to move anything :)

I get the cheats from here: http://www.geckocodes.org/index.php - these have been updated since I got mine

I simply copy and paste to a text file and modify some of the stuff out like names of the creators simply to make the file look neater when selecting cheats. I just make sure the first line of teh text file is the Game ID and the second line the Game Name (Not sure that the game name matters but I know wihtout teh Game ID on line 1 I have had issues with cheats working when created form Cheat Manager

That should just about cover all you ased

P.s. I moved thsi to Off Topic as that is where it should be :)

EDIT: Modified Cheat Code Manager to be what I actually use Cheat Manager v3

Hi Zephyr,

thank you very much. The .gct-file worked great with Gecko. But With WodeFlow and WodeLoader only B to pound and DOWN+B to blow worked. That's very strange. With which loader do you start the game? I fear it's WodeFlow, because you mentioned it earlier. Which version do you use?

I couldn't find the Cheat Code Manager v3. Did you possibly mean the Cheat Manager v0.3 coded by SpriteZ? If not, where can I find the Cheat Code Manager v3 you mentioned in your previous post?

Sorry for posting in the wrong group. ;)

Thank you very much again.

Yes - it is the Cheat Manager v3 that you referenced

I do start the game with wodeflow. I am using the r12 version: http://code.google.com/p/wodebrew/downloads/list

I know the codes worked for me (even the health ones) because I loaded my saved game and stood I'm the 2nd level and te bird walked into both player one and player 2 and I never lost any life on either character. (I guess you know it works cos it did with gecko)

Hi Zephyr,

that's strange. I am using the same WodeFlow version. Am I right to assume that you're owning a PAL Wii while you're living in Australia?
Maybe the firmware version of the Wii and the WODE is that matters. My setup is as following:

Wii 4.2E
WODE 2.8A
HBC 1.0.8

I am posting the interesting parts of wodeflow.ini. Possibly that helps:

In [GENERAL] my cheats = yes and yours = no... That is a setting from the main wodeflow settings (click the cogs from the game selection / covers screen and go to page 5 Ocarina = ON)

But I am sure yours have to be on to be working with the B for ground pound code... Change that setting all the same and test again.....

I am on Wii Firmware 4.3E and 2.8B WODE Firmware - but these matter not. These only matter for loading a game so to speak.

I just tested again from Gecko and WodeFlow and had no issues with infinite health and B for pound and B+Down for blow....

In [GENERAL CHEATS] is definitely off and the B for ground pound code is working, but not the health codes. As far as I understand the inner workings of WodeFlow a game setting always overrides the corresponding GENERAL setting. If it would be the other way no cheat would work with my settings of WodeFlow. But there are several games which working great with cheats.
But it's definitely worth a try.
Ok, I've tested it and the result was unfortunately negative. It makes no difference wether OCARINA is ON or OFF in GENERAL. The pound codes are working, the health codes not. :(

Maybe there's a difference concerning the way you're starting WodeFlow. Do you use a forwarder? If yes, which one? Which HBC version do you use?

Thank you for patience with me. :)

It matters not how I start the game. Via a forwarder and via the HBC both do the same thing for me - meaning the cheats work.

Are you 100% sure you have the right cheat file?

As fir the forwarder i use the one posted by WiiJohn. You would have to do a search as I am not near my PC. I have linked to it many times so you should be able to fid the forwarder.

Other than that you are out of luck as I have no answer for you. Maybe go to the cheat site I linked - grab the new codes and use cheat manager to create a new gct file for you and see how that works
